Welcome From the Head of School

Welcome!

I invite you to explore our website and learn what makes Chesapeake Montessori School (CMS) a developmentally-based, forward-thinking, twenty-first century education. The education that we offer is different from a traditional model: we focus on the individual, encouraging them to work and develop at their own pace, to a large degree, and bring values, grace, and courtesy to the forefront of our practice.

If you are wondering what makes Chesapeake Montessori School such a wonderful place to enroll, I can confidently share that the CMS staff proudly and selflessly serve the developmental needs of children and adolescents ages eighteen months through fifteen years (pre-k – 8th grade). Our Main Campus, where indoor and outdoor beauty abounds and is accessible to the children, comprises 7 acres in Annapolis, MD. The Upper Campus is a three-acre, land-based program located in Arnold, Maryland, and serves our seventh and eighth grade students. The adolescent program offers experiential education that is applicable to the real world. CMS is also a learning environment with high standards in the traditional disciplines – mathematics, English language arts, science, the humanities, geography, geometry, fine/performing/industrial arts, and Spanish language arts.

Most importantly, Chesapeake Montessori School offers twelve to fourteen years of “invisible scaffolding” that impels young people to become good and noble citizens in their own time and place. We implement measures that better our school community in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and equality, and strive for our classrooms to reflect a diverse representation of people.  We seek empathetic children, teens, and parents who value self-construction and intellectual curiosity and want families who are invested in establishing and maintaining a good-natured community.

Chesapeake Montessori School is reforming education in the greater Annapolis area by offering a learning experience that equips the next generation with the values and skills they will need to be articulate, adaptable, creative, self-assured, and community-minded adults. We appreciate your consideration of Chesapeake Montessori School for your child(ren). Please register for a tour by contacting our admissions office

Sincerely,

Robb Wirts
